Bare Bottles: Products I've Finished No. 4

December 7, 2015
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream and Sebastian Potion 9

Happy Monday! Here is this week's Bare Bottles post. I have only two products to review for you this week, but will hopefully have some more coming up. Read about them below:

I started using this BB cream when BB creams first started rolling out into the market. I think Maybelline was one of the first brands to have their own BB cream, but of course these types of tinted moisturizers can now be found anywhere. This one in particular I really like. It stays put all day, it gives me just enough coverage (I actually don't like too much coverage), and it has SPF. This BB is perfect for everyday use. I apply it with my fingers or sometimes with a damp sponge.

Sebastian Potion 9 Travel Size
I first found out about this product on Pinterest claiming it works wonders on curly hair. Then singer Lorde confessed in a magazine interview her love for the product. I decided to try it out, but settled for the travel size version to test it out first. This product is a styling cream that is suppose to restore lost moisture. After using it on my damp curly hair I immediately saw a difference. There was less frizz than before and my curls became more defined. I ended up liking this product but don't think I'll pay for a full size bottle. To read a full review of this product go here.

Mark Fix Me Up Multi-Benefit Scented Balm Trio

December 1, 2015
Mark Fix Me Up Multi-Benefit Scented Balm Trio

I have a slight fascination with multipurpose products and if they come in three I love them even more. That's why I'm loving these mini balms from Mark. These little balms are small and were just too cute to pass up. The Fix Me Up trio contains three scented mini balms which smell like plumberry, lemon sugar, and coconut. They all smell so good! They are infused with argan and olive oils, aloe butter, and vitamins A and E. Pretty much perfect for the cooler temps! I've been using these minis on my lips for instant hydration and on my cuticles when they look a bit dry. These are also great to carry in your bag since they are so tiny.

Mark Fix Me Up Multi-Benefit Scented Balm Trio

I ended up getting this trio on sale through the Mark outlet catalog. Since this set is not available anymore I rounded up some lip trios that I'm adding to my current holiday wishlist. Click to see my picks!

Sephora Collection Purifying & Mattifying Mud Mask

November 30, 2015
Sephora Collection Purifying & Mattifying Mud Mask

A couple of months ago I popped into my nearest Sephora to browse for any new products. I've been needing a face mask that will help me battle oil and shine. I asked one of Sephora's employees for any suggestions and she recommended their Purifying and Mattifying Mud Mask. She was quick to mention that this Sephora product was new and had a 5 star customer rating. So of course I had to give it a try!

The mud mask comes in this super luxe jar and inside the mask itself is a dirty gray color. I was hesitant to apply it for fear of an allergic irritation but the Sephora employee assured me that it will be gentle on sensitive skin. The zinc and copper in the mask is used to remove impurities and unclog pores, while white clay gently softens skin.

Sephora Collection Purifying & Mattifying Mud Mask

The directions don't specify whether to put on the mask on a dry or wet face so I went with a dry face, although I don't think either way really matters. I carefully applied it all over my face and noticed the herbal-y smell of it. It smells like something I've definitely smelled before but can't figure out what it is. Ugh. But I promise is not a bad smell. Once you apply the mud mask it is suppose to turn a a lighter white color meaning the mask is now dry. The directions don't specify for how long to leave it on but I decided twenty minutes was good enough. When my twenty minutes were up I removed the mask, which was actually pretty easy to remove (yay!), and my skin felt so clean.

It definitely does what is says by leaving your skin matte. My face felt smooth, and just how I wanted it, with no oil in sight. I definitely recommend this mask to anyone who has oily skin and needs a way to get rid of any oil buildup. You can absolutely notice a change the first time you use it. This mask is gentle and won't irritate your skin. But of course you should test try a patch just to make sure. This mud mask is also a dupe for one of GlamGlow's masks (I can't remember which one the employee mentioned) without the obvious hefty price tag.

Bare Bottles: Products I've Finished No. 3

November 21, 2015
OGX, Victoria's Secret Beauty, Target

It's been a while since I've done one of these posts but to be honest I really hadn't finished any products until now. My last Bare Bottles post was back in April and since then I've gathered several empty bottles that I will absolutely write about soon. To get this post series back and running again I will review three products for you. Read about them below:

OGX Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil
This hair oil is a must for me whenever I get a blowout. My crazy curly hair responds well with this oil. This is how I use it: I take it with me to the salon (I can't blowout my own hair to save my life) and then the oil is added to my hair after being washed. I always do a roller set on my hair and get under the dryer for 45 mins. When time is up and the rollers are removed my hair is left silky, making it much easier and faster to blowdry.I highly recommend this! (FYI the current packaging of this product is different from the one pictured above. It's the same product just a different look).

VS Beauty Baked Mineral Bronzing Powder in Goddess
This bronzer worked really well. It definitely gave me a subtle glow without it being too much. Unfortunately Victoria's Secret has completely downsized their beauty section so a lot of their products that I really liked including this bronzer are not available anymore. Sadness! I'm currently trying to find another bronzer to substitute this one. Any suggestions?

Target Up & Up Nourishing Nail Polish Remover
I personally like generic brand products and Target's Up & Up range is no exception. When it comes to nail polish remover I honestly do not care about added benefits or anything like that, if it removes my nail polish then that's all I care about. With this nail polish remover it simply did just that. Plus the price on this is crazy good.

My Dominican Republic Flight Essentials

November 16, 2015

If you follow my blog or my Instagram then you know I went on a mini-vacay to the Dominican Republic. I personally love to travel and find it so exciting especially when I am going to a place I've never been to before. I have a love and hate relationship with flying and planes. I love how interesting planes are. I mean being in the clouds (literally) can be so cool. But flying can also make my skin dry which I hate. Plus I can get a little fuzzy and bored when flying. I can be so impatient sometimes!

In my travel tote I usually carry key products that I know I'll be using during my flight. These products can really be lifesavers for me. I also rotate products whenever I travel. So depending on my destination or how I'm feeling at the moment I'll change up my flight essentials. Below are the products I carried with me during this recent flight followed by a small review.

Coach Wristlet
I have a few of these Coach wristlets and they come in handy when traveling. I sometimes hate it when my lip balms fall to the bottom of my bag. So I just placed them inside this wristlet and can access them easier. Plus this wristlet was so convenient while in the hotel to carry my phone, lipstick, and room key.

Bath & Body Works Hand Sanitizer in Ripe Raspberry Vine
Hand sanitizer is so essential when flying! From touching kiosks, food trays, and using the restroom in planes and airports, I must carry this with me. I love the ones from Bath & Body Works because they have so many fragrance options plus they're super cheap. This fragrance smells just like berries!

Josie Maran Argan Infinity Intensive Creamy Oil
Now you all know I love Josie Maran and her original argan oil. But this stuff is awesome because it is infused with her argan oil but the consistency is like a cream that melts into your skin. This is so good for dehydrated skin on planes and it really moisturizes. Plus I love the citrus-y smell of it.

VS Pink Body Mist in Sun Kissed
Who doesn't love to smell good? This body mist is perfect for travel because of its size and the smell is not overpowering. I like to spritz myself with this to quickly freshen up. This smells just like coconut and vanilla — the epitome of a tropical vacation.

Emergen-C Immune + in Super Orange
I somehow always manage to get sick when traveling. Ugh. I've tried the original Emergen-C before and I didn't really like it. But this version really works for me. I was having cold symptoms a few days before leaving and kept adding this vitamin infused powder to my water. I brought them with me on my flight and drank a few while flying (just ask a flight attendant for a cup of water) and the next day I was feeling so much better. So now I always carry some of these packets with me on a plane.

Simple Skincare Cleansing Facial Wipes
Sometimes I like to travel with makeup on but other times I just skip it altogether. These cleansing wipes are great to remove makeup and buildup and to refresh the skin. Using these make my face feel cool, fresh, and awake. They are the perfect pick-me-up.

What are your flight essentials? What's the one thing you can't travel without?

5 Rules to Follow to Get Better Skin

November 9, 2015

Nothing feels better than having a great skin day - that and a good shopping spree. Having glowing blemish-free skin is easier to have than you might think. I know we all have those days when we are just not feeling our best. We are humans nonetheless. But if you're suffering from breakouts or feel that your skin needs a boost then count on the easy simple rules below. I follow these rules religiously and I know you probably heard them again and again but there's a reason for that: they truly work. Try one or two or all of them and notice the difference.

Rules to follow:

1. Drink More Water: Do you think you drink enough water throughout the day? Think again. Water is incredibly important for our bodies. We need to stay hydrated constantly. Start your morning with a glass of water and continue to drink water throughout the day. Skip soft drinks and juices which can be loaded with way too much sugar. Upping your water intake guarantees more hydrated skin. This rule is beneficial for those who suffer from dry skin.

2. Wear Sunscreen: As much as some of us dislike applying sunscreen it is crucial to do so. Always wear sunscreen before stepping outside. Look for a moisturizer/BB cream that already has SPF. Remember that you must still protect your skin even when it is a cloudy day. You're supposed to wear sunscreen year-round to prevent sun/dark spots, wrinkles and ultimately skin cancer.
What I Use: My current moisturizer is Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer Sensitive Skin SPF 15.

3. Cleanse Before Sleeping: Nothing hurts skin the most than the sun and falling asleep without washing your face. Use a face wash or cleansing oil along with a cotton round to remove all of your makeup from the day. It just sounds completely icky to not clean your face before hitting your sheets. I'm super crazy about this one! Plus you don't want makeup to transfer to your pillow or to wake up looking like a hot mess with makeup residue smeared all over your face. Trust me your skin will thank you for it.
What I Use: To remove makeup and cleanse my face I rely on L'occitane Shea Cleansing Oil.

4. Indulge in a Face Mask: Once a week treat yourself to a face mask targeted towards your skin type or a skin problem you might have. For example I have oily skin so I use a face mask every Sunday (Sundays are my "me" days) that helps combat oil and leaves my face with a matte finish. So whether you have oily, dry, or sensitive skin or you are looking to minimize pores, or add more moisture, search for a mask that will help you with your specific need.
What I Use: Once a week I apply Sephora Collection Purifying and Mattifying Mud Mask and leave it on for 20 minutes.

5. Get Enough Sleep: Okay this rule is so hard for me to follow especially when I'm binge watching a new show. Try your best to get about 7 to 9 hours of sleep everyday. My schedule, like a lot of other people's schedule, might vary day to day so I can be waking up super early one day and a little later another day. However I try to get enough sleep as much as I can. Sleeping not only relaxes your body and gets it ready to conquer the next day but it also prevents unflattering dark puffy circles underneath your eyes and renews your skin.

I really hope you follow these rules and notice a positive change in your skin. Let's not forget that a healthy diet and regular exercise are also incredibly beneficial to your skin. But applying the above rules to your lifestyle can absolutely make a difference in how your skin looks.

Do you follow any of these rules? What rules do you swear by to achieve glowing skin? Let me know in the comments!

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic Photo Diary

November 4, 2015

After checking airfare for the Dominican Republic and seeing how cheap the flights were, my family spontaneously decided to book a trip. My sister and I stayed for one week while my parents stayed for two. I've been to DR many times before, the first time being when I was 5 years old. In case you didn't know, I am Dominican. I was born and raised in New York but my parents were born in DR. DR is awesome for a getaway tropical vacation. There are so many great locations to visit including the city of Puerto Plata.

We stayed in Playa Dorada, a large area in Puerto Plata that has several hotel resorts that are right near the beach. We stayed at the Grand Paradise hotel. Every time we go to Puerto Plata we always stay in this hotel. With everything all-inclusive let's just say we couldn't stop enjoying the unlimited food and drinks. We arrived to Puerto Plata in the late afternoon. Twenty minutes after checking into our hotel the craziest thunderstorm happened. I'm talking very very loud thunder. So what did me and my sister do? We put on our bikinis and we hopped in the jacuzzi under the rain. And no we didn't get pneumonia! It was actually so much fun.

The next day we woke up to the brightest sun and decided to go to the beach. We wanted to get as much beach time just in case it started raining again. However when we got to the beach it was filled with seaweed. We've been here before and were surprised to see the beach in this condition. But after speaking to some locals we then found out why the beach was like this: It had not rained in Puerto Plata in almost a year so the recent storms kept washing the dirt and seaweed to the shore. Hence why we spent most of our time at the pool. But it was all good: pina coladas by the pool? Fine by me!

The rest of the trip was filled with food, drinks, and dancing. At night the hotel hosts entertainment for the guests where they have contests and karaoke. It was fun to socialize with the other guests and to learn where they were from. My sister, who was celebrating her 27th birthday during this vacay, even participated in one of the contests. Let's just say it was hilarious! I definitely enjoyed my mini-vacay and I know I'll be back in DR sometime again soon. Take a look at some of the photos from my trip below:

Fresa (strawberry) ice-cream. Yum!

Santa Maria Novella Acqua Di Rose

September 23, 2015
Santa Maria Novella Acqua Di Rose

As you all know I have a tad bit of an obsession with facial mists and sprays. I'm slowly but surely building my own little collection. Other than facial sprays nothing excites me more than trying out beauty products from other countries. I do have a thing for French products. If I keep using Avene and Nuxe will I become French myself? I don't think so but I can certainly try. Oui!

But back to the post at hand. So this summer my boyfriend traveled to Italy. Before he left he told me to make a list of any Italian beauty products that I wanted to try so that he can buy them for me during his vacay, immediately winning the Boyfriend of the Year award. So I gladly obliged. After a very intense Google session the only product that I really wanted was Santa Maria Novella's Acqua Di Rose or simply rose water for my non-Italian speaking friends.

This rose water is one of the brand's signature products and can be used several ways. You can use it in the most common way: on your face to help de-puff tired eyes and to refresh the skin. But other uses include relieving aching muscles by adding some to your bath and applying a washcloth soaked in the rose water to your face to relieve migraines. This stuff is so ancient (but in a good way, I promise) that the recipe was said to be created during the time of the poet Dante. Raise your hand if you now want to read The Divine Comedy?

Santa Maria Novella Acqua Di Rose
Just wanted to show off my mani. Wearing Smith & Cult in Fauntleroy.

Bottom Line: I love the smell of this! I know I've mentioned before that rose scents are not my favorite however this particular rose smell is divine! It smells like pure authentic roses. Not an artificial or chemical rose scent here. I'm talking the real deal. I mean this is made from actual roses found in the Florentine Hills of Italy. I've been applying it to my face before I go to sleep and it is very refreshing and makes my skin feel smooth. My only problem with this is the bottle. Although the bottle is gorgeous it does not have a spray top. Instead you must pour some of it on your hand and then apply it to your face. But I think I can manage.

Santa Maria Novella
FYI my bf bought this in the brick and mortar store of the brand (pictured above) located in Rome near Piazza Navona. He paid about 14 euros for the 8.4 oz bottle which is huge by the way.

New In: Drybar 100 Proof Treatment Oil and Hot Toddy Protectant

September 18, 2015
Drybar 100 Proof Treatment Oil and Hot Toddy Heat & UV Protectant

This post is long overdue but it is finally here. I've been meaning to write a quick review of these products since I got them. So let's begin. Drybar, for those of you who are not familiar, is a chain salon with locations across the U.S. What makes Drybar so special? Well they mainly focus on blowouts. So no coloring or cuts just a good 'ol blowout. Also their prices are the same for everyone no matter how long your hair is. Drybar uses their own line of products and after loving my first experience at a midtown New York City location I had to check out their line. Thanks to a friend who gifted me these products I was able to give them a try.

First of all I'm loving the packaging of the line. It looks so girly and chic. I'm a total sucker for good packaging for any kind of beauty product even if sometimes the product is not that great. But that's not the case with these goodies. The 100 Proof Treatment Oil which comes in the cutest mint green/clear bottle feels so good on my curly/thick hair. Not only does it smell amazing but it is unlike any other hair oil I've tried. This one goes on smooth and not sticky. Plus it leaves my hair so soft. I like to apply it on my damp hair after washing it and it really makes my usual frizzy curls less unruly. I love this stuff!

The Hot Toddy Heat & UV Protectant feels like a thick cream. It's suppose to help your hair by avoiding heat damage when using hot tools. Although I haven't tried it when blow drying my hair, it does also protect against the sun's UV rays. Protecting my hair from the sun was never something that I paid much mind to but now with this product I've been taking it more into consideration. I've been applying this cream before stepping out into the warm temps and it makes my hair feel moisturized. I definitely need to give it a try before a blowout though. Maybe I'll book an appointment at my nearest Drybar...

Have you tried Drybar products before? What's your favorite product for blow drying your hair? And don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin' to keep up with my latest beauty posts!

Smith & Cult Polish in Fauntleroy

September 1, 2015
Smith and Cult Fauntleroy

Once I saw former Lucky mag EIC Eva Chen post on her Instagram a photo of her recent lavender mani, I knew I had to get my hands on her exact polish. Luckily (no pun intended) she captioned the polish brand and the color. And there I went immediately Googling it so I can get my hands on it.

I introduce to you Smith & Cult in Fauntleroy - the prettiest, most girly, and whimsical purple polish ever! I'm completely obsessed with this color. I love it so much that I really wish I bought it sooner so that I could've rocked it since the beginning of summer. But we must not live our lives with regret...

And let me not get started on the bottle. Although it is indeed top heavy, the small bottle is perfect to display on a desk or vanity. And the formula? Amazing! It goes on perfectly smooth. The price tag might hurt a little but I think this polish brand is well worth it. If you're still on the fence on whether you should try this brand simply opt to just get this color. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Staatsburg Photo Diary

August 18, 2015
Staatsburg

Once again the gang, or should I say squad, got together and road tripped up to Staatsburg, New York. It's a little tradition we have to head to upstate New York for a camping weekend. Although we didn't camp last year (I was making my rounds through Paris and London) we made a promise to start our tradition again.

We stood in a cabin in Mills Norris State Park just like last time. It was a weekend filled with eating way too much food and sitting back and relaxing. Once we arrived on Friday and settled into our cabin we headed to Walmart to buy food and other necessities. I love going to Walmart because there they have everything you can possibly need and the prices are low. Since there is no Walmart in the city it's always fun to visit one whenever possible.

Once we arrived back to the cabin we cooked some beans while we waited for the rest of the group to arrive. I can't tell you how much beans we ate the whole weekend, and eggs and bacon. This is what our breakfast every morning consisted of haha. But no worries, we ate other food like burgers, hot dogs, steak, and sausages. But by far the best thing I ate the whole weekend was a guacamole dip we bought at Stop and Shop along with some Tostitos chips with a hint of lime. Delicious!

On Saturday the highlight of our day was visiting a drive-in movie theater. I've never been to one before and it's something that I've always wanted to do. We ended up seeing Fantastic Four which was a little disappointing, but the experience of just sitting back in your own car/space watching a movie is priceless. I definitely recommend going to a drive-in theater.

On Sunday we all headed down to the nearby marina for some fishing. Although no one caught anything the weather was perfect. We ended each of our nights roasting s'mores by the bonfire. So sweet and yummy! We also took a drive to a nearby town called Rhinebeck and it felt so cozy. There were many local shops and restaurants. It's always nice to get out of the city and visit less crowded places. Oh and by the way we made several trips to Dairy Queen. #sorrynotsorry

A Few Things from Sephora

July 20, 2015
Nars Lip Pencils and Elizabeth and James Nirvana

A couple of months ago I passed by my nearest Sephora to claim my birthday gift. If you are a Sephora Beauty Insider every year for your birthday the beauty store gives you a little sample treat as a gift. This year Sephora gifted me with two of the sample size versions of Nars' Lip Pencils. Along with my purchase I also redeemed some of my points and scored a great mini fragrance.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana in White Mini Rollerball
This perfume smells strong when it's applied but once it blends onto your skin it leaves you with a beautiful musk scent. The main notes on this fragrance are peony, muguet, and tender musk. The fragrance makes me feel sophisticated. Plus this is the perfect size to carry with you on the go. I also would like to try the black version of this fragrance which I took a whiff of at the store and it smells less musky and more sweet.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella
This lip pencil goes on smooth and the color is very vibrant. It's such a deep red that I'm not entirely sure I can pull it off. I actually always go for rosy lipsticks so this color in particular was too much for me. Also this version is matte so the color stays put for quite some time. In addition, I'm not really a fan of matte lipsticks since they can sometimes feel dry.

Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien
I love this color! The rosy pink color is perfect for me; not too dark and not too light. I fell in love with this lip pencil and unlike the one above this version is satin so it feels super soft and smooth. I've actually been using this one so much lately and unfortunately the pencil is almost done. I'm definitely going to buy the full size version of it because now I can't see myself without it.

Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom and Soothing Face Mist

July 8, 2015
Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom and Soothing Face Mist

If you haven't already heard of Glossier than you really need to check them out. Glossier is not your typical beauty brand. Instead of masking your imperfections this brand strives to put your best face forward by still allowing you to look like your natural self. So when I received an e-mail that Glossier will be releasing a new product and that if I got 5 people to sign up for a special giveaway I can score said product for free I was all game.

Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom

The new Coconut Balm Dotcom was just released for the summer. I already own their original Balm Dotcom — you can read my review of it here — and I use it everyday. This new balm is exactly like the original but with an updated look and best of all a new scent — you guessed it, coconut. Oh boy does this smell good! It smells so good I want to eat it but that wouldn't sit so well with my stomach. This new balm is seriously reminiscent of summertime lying on the beach while catching some vitamin D (while wearing SPF of course) and enjoying 80 degree weather. It also reminds me of fresh baked cookies preferably those Danish Butter Cookies that come in a blue tin can (I know you know which ones I'm talking about!) I'm also loving the new packaging. This coconut goodness now comes in this cute little box which I don't have the heart to toss out. And of course your package comes with Glossier's signature stickers, because who doesn't love stickers? The balm, just like the original, can be used to moisturize lips, cuticles, elbows, or any other dry areas.

Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom

As for that giveaway I mentioned earlier, I ended up getting 10 beautiful awesome kind people to sign up for the giveaway with my link and along with the Coconut Balm Dotcom I also won Glossier's Soothing Face Mist. The mist is not a new product but I obviously needed to add it to my collection. I love the minimalistic bottle. So simple and chic! Now, I know you guys know that I love a good facial spray (see my recent facial sprays reviews here) and I've been using this mist since I received it. It's really refreshing especially now during the warmer temps. The scent is rose which like I've mentioned before is not a smell I love or that I hate. The rose smell in this mist however is strong and reminds of the nasal spray I use in the spring season to combat allergies. The smell does become subtle after spraying so it's not that big of a deal. I would definitely recommend this and the new coconut balm.
