Smith & Cult in Bitter Buddhist

December 22, 2016
Smith & Cult Bitter Buddhist

My obsession with Smith & Cult is not dying any time soon. It's safe to say that I'm becoming even more obsessed. This summer I was on the lookout for a seafoam green nail polish. I kept searching for OPI Mermaid Tears but couldn't find it anywhere. I then searched for an alternative, and although this isn't the same shade as the OPI color, Bitter Buddhist is exactly what I had my mind on. Plus it looks awesome on your toes! The application was seamless as per usual.

Bite Beauty Multistick

October 3, 2016
Bite Beauty Multistick

I'm sure that I've mentioned how much I love multipurpose products. Case in point: Bite Beauty Multistick. This handy little stick can be used on your lips, cheeks, and on eyes. This product has been all the rage on social media, and with over 10 colors to choose from I can see why everyone is flocking to get their hands on them. I tried three colors: Macaroon, Cocoa, and Blondie.

Macaroon was definitely may favorite. With a rosy pink color I can see myself wearing this shade in all three places, my lips, cheeks and eyes. This color looks great on the cheeks for a flushed look. Cocoa is a dark brown color which I don't think I can pull off on the lips but it can possibly work to contour. Blondie is a nude-y color that I think looks great on the eyes.

The great thing about these multisticks is the satin finish. It goes on so smooth when you apply which is especially important if you want to apply to the cheeks and eyelids-it makes blending so much easier. I also love how compact they are and that I can stash these anywhere without them taking up too much space.

I absolutely want to try other colors and I recommend this to anyone who loves products that target more than one area. Take a peek at the swatches below:

Bare Bottles: Products I've Finished No. 8

October 2, 2016

I'm a little bummed that summer is over. But I am so excited for the fall, chilly temps, and new makeup and skincare products. I've been a little MIA lately in the blogsphere, but I'm working on some new posts for you. To get the ball rolling again here are some products that I recently finished.

This is my everyday lotion that I use after I shower. I definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fragrance free option and that keeps skin hydrated. I usually switch between this one and my prescribed lactic acid lotion. This is an all-around a good lotion and can be found in any drugstore.

I have combo/oily skin so I thought this cleanser will come in handy for me. At first I loved it but then I started noticing that my skin always felt dry, which rarely happens. I then realized that it was this cleanser. From now on I just use a cleansing oil. But to be honest I do like to use this cleanser after a workout because it leaves my skin feeling clean. I will still recommend this but limit your use to only once a day or after a sweat session to avoid dryness.

I'm always 50/50 when it comes to deodorant. I either use a deodorant/antiperspirant or just a deodorant alone. Whenever I randomly go through my no antiperspirant phase I like to stick to all natural deodorants that contain no baking soda. Baking soda really irritates my underarms making them itchy, red, bumpy and creating hyper-pigmentation. BTW it's a little hard to find an all natural deodorant that has zero baking soda. Meow Meow Tweet is baking soda free and I can pronounce all of the ingredients. This deodorant is super smoothing and has a pleasant smell. But is it long-lasting? So so. I had to reapply to make sure I would stay stink-free but to cut the product some slack I sweat A LOT. So although it didn't last all day for me, it can absolutely work better for you. Everyone's body chemistry is different.

Montauk, New York

Montauk, New York

Summer is the perfect time to head out to Long Island for the weekend. We drove to Montauk, which is at the eastern end of the island, for some exploring. We decided to check out the Montauk Lighthouse—the first lighthouse in New York State and the fourth oldest in the U.S. Being here felt like that Gossip Girl episode when the gang is in the Hamptons. Très chic!

Wearing Smith & Cult Bitter Buddhist on my toes. (A review will be up soon!)

Smith & Cult Regret the Moon

Loved how my mani looked in the sunlight! Wearing Smith & Cult Regret the Moon.

On our way back to the city we learned that it was National Ice Cream Day so we made a pit stop at a local Carvel for some ice cream. I opted for the Orange Sherbet. So delicious!

How's your summer so far? Have any of you visited Montauk?

Smith & Cult Polish in Regret The Moon

June 29, 2016
Smith & Cult Regret The Moon

Once the weather starts getting warmer, I love playing around with different nail colors. One of my favorite nail polish brands is Smith & Cult. Their colors are so unique, the formula is amazing, and the color is long lasting. You can never go wrong with white once summer rolls around. Plus wearing white looks so good when your skin is tanned.

The color above is Regret The Moon and it's a great shade of white (Net A Porter's photos don't quite capture the color). Some white polishes can be super streaky making it hard to apply to the nails. The formula on this polish is so smooth. No streaks or bubbles. Regret The Moon is not such a bright white that ends up looking too heavy. It's the perfect balance and shade. To achieve the opacity above I used two coats.

I'm honestly so obsessed with this brand and would like to build my collection of all their polishes. The packaging is so beautiful, chic, and luxe. I already purchased this seafoam green color from Net A Porter, and I can't wait to try it and upload swatches for you all. And in case you missed it, here is my post on Smith & Cult's Fauntleroy, a delicate lavender. The post is almost reaching 200 views! Thank you for reading!

Glossier Balm Dotcom in Rose

June 27, 2016
Glossier Rose Balm Dotcom

As you may already know, Glossier is one of my favorite beauty brands. Their packaging and product marketing is top notch. I love that they're constantly releasing new products, and this rose scented version of their Balm Dotcom is so good.

I'm personally a big fan of their original balm but little by little I am becoming more obsessed with products infused with roses. This rose version smells so delicate and fresh. The smell is almost sweet. I love it because it acts just like the regular balm, but the scent makes the product a lot cooler. Most of the time I use it on my lips (I love how long lasting it is!) but you can apply anywhere you feel needs some moisture. It doesn't leave my lips shiny or sticky and in case you're wondering it doesn't leave a tint or color on your lips.

If you haven't tried Glossier I highly recommend this balm, as well as the rest of the balm dotcom range. I think this is the best product from their entire line.

Bare Bottles: Products I've Finished No. 7

June 26, 2016
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Smooth Conditioner and Mario Badescu Facial Spray

Happy Sunday! Why does the weekend go by so fast?! I haven't had a Bare Bottles post in a little while so below are reviews of two products that I recently finished. Keep reading for mini reviews:

This conditioner worked pretty good, but it does not compare to their original formula, the 3 Minute Miracle Moist Conditioner. I felt like the smooth version wasn't too long lasting. When I use the moist version my hair remains soft for a lot longer. Aussie products are great because they're inexpensive and I definitely recommend their 3 minute deep conditioners, but I would recommend the moist one instead. I did a first impression of this conditioner back in 2014, check it out!

Okay this product is an essential for me. I love using this after I cleanse my face and remove my makeup. Another way that I've been using it is by spritzing some on a sponge that I use to apply my BB cream or foundation. It makes my skin feel hydrated. This facial spray is infused with aloe, herbs, and rosewater. Plus is only $7! It doesn't get much better than that. Click here to read a longer review of this mist.

Stay tuned for more mini reviews on products I've finished. Meanwhile, what beauty product have you just finished and can't wait to repurchase? Let me know in the comments!

Ashley Graham x Formula X Nail Polish in Sexy As Hell

June 5, 2016
Ashley Graham Sexy As Hell Formula X

I am living for this red right now! I've been obsessed with Sephora's limited edition Formula X #ColorCurators collabs, and this recent one with body activist and gorgeous woman Ashley Graham is no exception. Her three-piece polish set includes this stand-out red called appropriately enough, Sexy As Hell, along with an orange coral, and a berry plum.

I decided to go with the red. Red is such a classic color and I know that I'll be wearing this polish no matter the season. The application for this polish was perfect. It has a great consistency and it was long-lasting. I've been pretty impressed with Formula X polishes and I'm currently loving their sleek yet colorful Instagram feed.

There was a past #ColorCurators collab that I never looked into with ballet fitness guru Mary Helen Bowers and luckily her polish range is still available at Sephora.com. I'm digging the Lilac Fairy and Satin Slippers colors. Decisions, decisions, decisions...

What new nail polish have you been loving lately? Check out my post on Song of Style's Formula X #ColorCurators collab.

Bare Bottles: Products I've Finished No. 6

April 15, 2016

Happy Fri-Yay! What are your plans for the weekend? Here I have my latest Bare Bottles post where I give you mini reviews of a cleansing oil (my favorite!), a body lotion, and a face mist. Read about them below:

L'Occitane Shea Cleansing Oil
This cleansing oil is seriously the best, and my ultimate favorite. You apply it to a dry or wet face and the oil turns into a milky substance. This cleansing oil not only removes all of your makeup but it also leaves your skin super soft. Once I massage it all over my face I then use a cotton round to take off my makeup. I love to use this at night before I hit the sheets. I have oily/combo skin and love this cleansing oil. So if you have oily skin as well don't feel afraid to use a cleansing oil. I promise this one is super gentle and doesn't cause any breakouts. I highly recommend this product!

Kai Body Lotion
I picked up this lotion after hearing some hype about it online. I wanted to see what the fuss was about. This lotion is made up of safflower seed oil, apricot kernel oil and cucumber fruit extract. For me the smell is a little hard to get use to at first, but after continuing to wear it I ended up liking the scent. It is definitely a unique scent that I haven't smelled on any other lotion before. Kai products are also all sulfate, paraben, and phthalate free.

Glossier Rosewater Soothing Face Mist
You know about my fascination with face mists, right? I need to have one at all times. This one from Glossier was not a total home run for me. I will say that it is refreshing just how a face mist should be, but I did not like the smell of this rosewater spray. It has a chemical rose smell that reminds me of the nasal spray I use to combat my spring allergies (read about my first impression of it here). I've actually grown fond of rose scents and when I think of an authentic pure rose scent I immediately think of my Santa Maria Novella Acqua Di Rose. But to each their own: my sister ended loving this Glossier mist so much that she has been begging me to purchase it again for her.

TonyMoly Red Wine Face Mask Sheet

March 23, 2016
TonyMoly Red Wine Face Mask Sheet (Pore Care)

After having this pack of masks stored in my beauty stash for over five months, I knew this weekend was the perfect time to finally use them. This pore care red wine face mask from Korean brand TonyMoly was exactly what I needed to help my lately unusual problematic skin. I have no idea why (maybe lack of sleep) but my skin has been going haywire on me. Think dry skin, enlarged pores, and even a couple of breakouts which I hardly ever get.

This face mask which is jam-packed with different extracts including red wine, green tea, jasmine, and rosemary not only helps in minimizing the appearance of pores but it also hydrates and tightens the skin. This was my first time trying a sheet mask and I was pleasantly surprised. I imagined it to be a messy ordeal, but the mask fit my oval face perfectly and it was very easy to apply and to remove.

The mask itself is drenched in the serum containing all of the extracts mentioned above and it felt smooth on my skin. I never know how my skin is going to react with a face mask especially if I have to leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes. I left this mask on for 25 minutes and there was no itchiness or burning involved. My skin felt comfortable throughout the entire time.

After gently removing the mask rinsing was not required. As per instructions, I massaged the leftover serum all over my face. My skin felt a little sticky and very cold. But I immediately saw that my skin was definitely more bright and hydrated. I'm not too sure about the minimizing of pores. I guess to see a change in pores you might have to do one of these masks more frequently.

I recommend this product to anyone who is a newbie to sheet masks. These are easy to use and deliver quick and great hydration to your skin. Plus when you buy them at Sephora (which I did) you'll get two of the same mask in one pack. And let's not forget the price. These are super inexpensive coming in at $7.50. If pores aren't your problem area, TonyMoly offers several different masks that targets others areas. I'm already looking into the clear skin, brightening, and hydrating ones.

Bare Bottles: Products I've Finished No. 5

March 11, 2016

Hooray! The weather in New York is finally getting warmer. Warmer weather for me means less products to use but definitely more sun protection since we're showing a little bit more skin. Here is this week's Bare Bottles post.

This lotion was just okay for me. I would apply it after my shower, and although it felt moisturizing, the moisture was not long-lasting. However I do love the size of this bottle — it can last for months! Another thing I love about this lotion is that it is fragrance free. I sometimes dislike wearing  lotions with a fragrance because they can badly mix with my perfume. But if I had to choose another Aveeno lotion I would pick this one. I'm not sure what is the exact difference between the two, but for some reason I like the Daily Moisturizing one much better.

To make a long story short I had previously bought this face moisturizer but for combination/oily skin and it gave my skin a burning sensation. I exchanged it for this sensitive version and it worked great. It is rare that I get a reaction to a product so my guess is that the sunscreen ingredients were to blame for the burning feeling. I'm not sure which ingredient it was but from now on I stick to zinc oxide (a gentler form of sunscreen) just to be sure. I'm not sure if I'll buy this moisturizer again. I'm currently eyeing this one from Honest Beauty, which has only zinc oxide and a higher SPF.

Magazine Beauty Sale: This Is What I Bought

March 2, 2016
Magazine Beauty Sale

Working at a magazine is hard work but it definitely comes with some perks. Beauty sales are one of those perks. Most magazines hold an annual beauty sale whenever the beauty closet gets too crazy with beauty products. A couple of weeks ago I went to my second magazine beauty sale and got some cool stuff.  Keep reading to see what I picked up:

Kora Organics Heart Chakra Essence
This is my first product from model Miranda Kerr's beauty line Kora Organics. This is not something that I would typically be interested in picking up but let's face it, was I  going to get it this cheap somewhere else? The essence is made up of certified organic oils like rose otto, sandalwood, jojoba, and ylang ylang. The smell is very strong but once you rub it on your pulse points you feel energized. I definitely want to try more products from this organic line.

Avene Cold Cream
Avene is definitely one of my favorite French brands. I'm obsessed with their Thermal Spring Water (you can see my post about it here), so I was excited to pick this baby up. This cold cream is beneficial in aiding dry, irritated skin. I wish I had this product during the beginning of winter. I have not used it yet because the weather here in New York has been getting a little warmer, but I wouldn't be surprised if the weather drops again. If so I'll use it and get back to you with a review.

Dr. Hauschka Soothing Mask
Dr. Hauschka is a brand that I want to keep trying out. I love that they only use natural but effective ingredients to help your skin. This mask helps sensitive skin by calming down redness with shea and coconut oils as well as anthyllis. After I removed this mask my skin felt so soft. There's just something about this brand that makes it feel luxe. Whenever I use this brand I know I'm getting the best quality.

Sephora Sleeping Masks in Ginseng and Rose
Sephora masks are all the rage these days. These mini masks are applied to your face, neck, and around the eyes before going to bed and allowing them to work their magic overnight. Ginseng helps with toning and firming, and Rose helps to moisturize and brighten. I have yet to try these but I'm so excited to do so. During the sale these masks were just on top of the table untouched. Didn't anyone spot them? I'm glad I grabbed them before anyone else.

Yes to Baby Naturals Fragrance Free Wipes
Okay so during a beauty sale you sometimes don't think you just take. Case in point: these baby wipes. In my defense I really thought they were makeup remover wipes. I even kept using them a couple of times to take off my makeup without yet realizing what they were really for. These baby wipes are gentle — gentle enough that they didn't irritate my skin when I used them on my face. These wipes are made up of apricot, banana, and carrot extracts to cleanse a baby's skin.

100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream *Not Pictured
This coffee bean eye cream was one of the products I was really excited to pick up. It's suppose to reduce the appearance of puffy eyes and dark circles. I've been using this product before applying my makeup and I must say that I have less puffiness around the eyes. But what I like the most about this is that it keeps my delicate eye area moisturized. As for dark circles I haven't seen much of a change.

Song of Style x Formula X Nail Polish in Nude for You

February 9, 2016
Song of Style and Formula X Nude for You

One thing is for sure in life: a nude mani never goes out of style. I love wearing all different kinds of colors on my nails but a classic neutral color is what I somehow always end up going back to. Fashion blogger Aimee Song from blog Song of Style recently released her #ColorCurators three-piece nail polish collection with cruelty-free brand Formula X exclusively at Sephora. The collection features the colors A Girl's Best Friend, a light pink, Mintfluencer, a mint green, and Nude for You, a beige nude.

I decided to purchase Nude for You because you can never go wrong with a nude color. Nude polishes can actually sometimes be difficult to shop for because not every shade looks flattering on every skin tone. It's all about trial and error. This nude color in particular looked great on my medium skin tone and I think it can work well with other skin tones too.

Song of Style and Formula X Nude for You

This was my first time trying a Formula X polish and I was happy with the formula. The brush is great and the consistency of the polish was creamy while the application was clean. There were no streaks or bubbles. I added two coats of the polish to get this shade. What do you think?

Formula X has also released the Patrick Starr edition of their #ColorCurators range and should be releasing more nail polish collaborations soon. I can't wait to see what else is arriving at Sephora!

Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant

January 16, 2016
Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant in Cool Essentials

When it comes to deodorant and antiperspirant I'm always changing between the both. Most of the time I need a deodorant with antiperspirant because I sweat...a lot. But other times my hypochondriac self decides to put my body through "detox" and then suddenly stick to all-natural deodorant minus the antiperspirant. But when I do this I end up having to reapply throughout the day, and let's just say I don't have time for that.

So whenever I am in that phase of deodorant and antiperspirant I always use Dove. Right now I've been using Dove Advanced Care with Nutrium Moisture in Shea Butter, and I love it! It doesn't smell too strong and it protects me the whole day. Plus after using this product for a couple of months I noticed that my underarms became clearer and the skin lighter - shaving problems!

Now that Dove has released their new Dry Spray antiperspirant line I knew I had to give it a try. Although I love my solid version, a sprayed-on antiperspirant just makes life way more easier, right? I tried the Cool Essentials one and I am pleased to say that I like it. The scent is fresh and it leaves me smelling my best. Plus the dry time is quick. One of the main reasons why I like this version is because there is no leftover residue, meaning no white marks. This dry spray is perfect to use when you're ready to buy and wear that cute sleeveless top you've been eyeing from J. Crew (ahem, or that I'm eyeing).

Have you tried Dove's Dry Spray line? What deodorant/antiperspirant do you use?

Are Your Eyebrows On Fleek?

January 6, 2016
Glossier Boy Brow

I've never been one to say that my eyebrows are "on fleek." I do love my eyebrows though. I remember when I turned thirteen and my mom gave me permission so that I could wax my eyebrows for the first time although I never told her I wanted to wax them in the first place. It turns out that my older sister waxed her eyebrows for the first time when she was thirteen and of course tradition passed on to me. My eyebrows have always been light black with fine hairs so I never really saw the point of waxing them.

Ultimately I did waxed my eyebrows, although not at thirteen, and I do have to say they looked cleaner. But to be honest I can go months without waxing them and no one will ever notice that I missed a wax appointment. What can I say, waxing the brows is one less upkeep I have to deal with every month. Although I am happy with my brows I always wanted my brows to be thick like Lily Collins but with a simple shape like Jessica Alba's.

Enter Glossier Boy Brow. I've been obsessed with Glossier since they first launched and I'm always on the lookout for any new product releases. Their latest launch: Boy Brow, an eyebrow pomade used to thicken and condition your eyebrows while adding color and a flexible hold. It works great on any type of brows. What I love the most about this is that it completely defines my eyebrows making me look polished without needing to wear any other kind of makeup. Another great thing about this pomade is the color selection. The Boy Brow comes in three colors, blond, brown, and black. I wear black and it really suits me well.

You can almost compare this product to Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Gel. But the color pay off doesn't compare. Gimme Brow is only available in two colors and none of them match my natural hair color. Their medium/deep color is a very dark brown that just doesn't look flattering on me. But the Boy Brow black color looks very natural which I love.

How do they look?

To apply the Boy Brow I simply brush the wand over my eyebrows in an upward motion making sure to focus on my eyebrow "sprouts" (the very beginning of your brow) for a youthful look and natural pigmented definition. This is also perfect for every day use.

Good news: Follow this link to get 20% off your first Glossier purchase. Forget about waxing just use Boy Brow. Enjoy!

Make Your Nail Polish Last Longer With This Tip

January 4, 2016
Essie Velvet Voyeur

Day Three: Wearing Essie Velvet Voyeur, a deep wine/chocolate purple.

Does it feel that no matter how hard you try you can't get an at-home manicure to actually last? Take it from me, I wish I could rock a beautiful paint-job of Essie Topless and Barefoot for a whole week, but it only lasts a mere two days until it begins to chip or worse, peel. Ever since the beauty gods discontinued my beloved True Blue Spa Seal The Deal Base and Top Coat I still can't find a matching replacement. So there I went Googling nonstop for the best top coats. I mean is it so hard to ask for shiny and glossy nails that last?

My search led me to one of the most popular top coats: Seche Vite. Seche Vite promises to leave your nails with high-shine while protecting your color for days. I had nothing to lose so there I went to buy a bottle on Amazon. I had high hopes for Seche Vite. Unfortunately my nail polish began to peel after just two days. What is this madness? With way too much experimenting I finally figured it out: top coat has no importance at all. The only thing that matters is the way you apply your polish.

Typically this is how you're suppose to apply: base coat, thin coat of color, let it dry for two minutes, second thin coat of color, again let it dry for two minutes, and then finally adding top coat. Well I've tried this and it doesn't work for me. Here's how I now apply: base coat, thin coat of color, let it dry for two minutes, add top coat, let it dry for two minutes, second thin coat of color, let it dry for two minutes, and then finally add top coat once again.

So basically you're just adding an extra layer of top coat before your second coat of color. This extra layer of top coat really adheres the first coat of color to your nails. It may also sound like there's a lot of drying time but trust me this totally works! I was surprised that my nails were still looking good on day two. But that wasn't more surprising than seeing my nail polish still intact after five days even after washing dishes. I'm talking no peeling and only very minimal chipping as well as some nail growth. Is this how the beauty gods are rewarding me for taking Seal The Deal away from me?

Essie Velvet Voyeur

Day Six: Some obvious chipping on the middle finger and thumb but the rest look pretty good for being the sixth day. BTW please don't mind my dry cuticles. I'm currently working on getting them moisturized by using this.

Will you try this tip? How do you make your at-home mani last longer? Let me know your tips in the comments!
